The eccentric is a good sized chunk of metal and if it did somehow get loose it would most likely destroy everything on the front of the engine before the engine stopped turning. The keyway doesnt come out far enough to engage the eccentric. In otherwords there isnt enough cam sticking out to engage the eccentric.
